Just Cavalli

Born at 1940 in Florence, Roberto Cavalli met his passion for fashion after enrolling to study at the local art institute, which specialises in textile printing. While a student, he decided to make a series of knitted floral prints that attracted the attention of major Italian knitwear factories.

In the early 1970s, the designer invented and patented a revolutionary technology for printing on leather and began creating patchwork from a variety of materials. Cavalli debuted his new techniques in Paris, immediately receiving commissions from the brands he liked, Hermes and Pierre Cardin. At the age of 30, he presented his first eponymous collection at the Prêt-à-Porte event in Paris. The catwalk of Sala Bianca at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence followed, and he later presented there the Milano Collezioni jeans, made of printed denim fabric, inlays on leather with brocade and patterns resembling the skins of wild animals, and before 1972 the designer opened his first boutique in Saint-Tropez.

In 1994, Cavalli presented his first collection of sand-treated jeans in Milan. In addition to the main line, Roberto Cavalli created a men's fashion line "RC Menswear", as well as a youth line "Just Cavalli",which was launched in 1998 and includes contemporary men's and women's clothing and accessories, eyewear, watches, perfumes, underwear and swimwear. The company also offers the children's fashion collection "Angels & Devils", the Class line, two collections of underwear, shoes, eyewear, watches and perfumes. In 2002 Cavalli opened his first coffee shop in Florence, reconstructed in his characteristic animal prints. Soon after, he opened the Just Cavalli café in Milan and another boutique on one of the most prestigious shopping streets, Via della Spiga.
