A day at home, a lingerie effect: underwear is one of the key inspirations in the Liu Jo Black Label – Spring/Summer 2017 First Release. The most secret items, inspired by our most hidden wardrobe, are a real hit, again.
This very contemporary spirit takes shape in sexy but delicate fits and materials. Such as lace, silk satin and animal prints. So, blouses are enhanced by bobbin and macramé lace. Tops and skirts are made to look like slip dresses. And the jackets and prints are those of classic man’s pyjamas.
But the Black Label S/S 2017 collection brings in something else too: proportions are unusual. More modern, more versatile. A long man’s blazer or a shorter fitted jacket turn into a range of items that can be worn as you like, depending on how you feel, with upturned or cropped hems. Silhouettes are fitted. Dresses end at the knee, or are longer for the summer. The pencil skirt, made sexier by a zipper, lets you move freely.
Another new thing is certainly the new take on animal prints, always the star of Liu Jo’s femininity and tough looks. In this First Release, it has been freshened up by micro-patterns in jacquard and silk satin, or medium sized patterns in stretchy viscose jersey.
Then, it comes as a Dalmatian print in blue and black shades. Built on comfy crepe for sexy dresses, mini skirts, pants and duster coats, it is an example of that "new formal" wear that is increasingly popular with women who want to be well dressed 24 hours a day, from office to party.
The colour palette is built on two key trends, Playful Feeling and The Glam Gypset. The first one starts with monochrome, with touches of pink and some very bright red, almost like coral. The other one is available in blue shades, broken up by a very rich yellow and, again, red.
While the former theme plays with coats, jerseys and pants in stretchy materials that combine comfort with a perfect fit, the latter one is funnier, easier, with lots of stripes, for example, playing with letterings, rhinestone details and unusual stones.
Tops and shirts feature a combination of light micro jacquard, stretchy poplin and pinpoint jacquard. Lace, of course, and silk. Sweatshirts have metallic details and interplays of sequins. T-shirts are decorated with details, tulle, stripes and rhinestones.
In addition, leather and faux leather break up these looks for a rock or modern-casual mood. With a fitted biker jacket, pants and bolero jackets.
The season’s must-have piece is an overcoat in slightly honeycombed jacquard with a floral animal print. Two-coloured cloth coats, lighter on the inside and darker on the outside. And then a trench coat in an engineered material.
Accessories include a waist-enhancing belt, flowers and brooches that take inspiration from the striped shirts, and a new gingham scarf.
